The Curriculum-Based Support Group(CBSG®) Program is a multi-cultural preventive intervention for selective and indicated populations of children and youth, developmental ages 4-15 , whose high-risk situations, attitudes and behaviors place them at elevated risk for substance abuse, delinquency and violence. The CBSG® Program is evidence-based and uses a support group and trained facilitator to teach children and youth a set of essential life skills to help them learn how to: cope with difficult family situations, resist peer pressure, set and achieve goals, and refuse alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The original Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) Program was developed in 1982 for use in schools and community-based settings. Since that time, the CBSG® Program curriculum has been adapted for use in the following settings: CBSG® Program for Shelters, Group Homes, & Transitional Settings (also known as Kids’ Connection, Too); and CBSG® Program for Christian Faith-Based Settings (also known as Faith Connection.) To accommodate grant and contract requirements, the age groupings for schools and community-based settings are also available in separate volumes under the names Kids’ Connection (For Developmental Ages 4-12) and Youth Connection (For Developmental Ages 10-15.) Rainbow Days provides CBSG® replication training throughout Texas and the nation.
NOTE: Rainbow Days, Inc. is proud that the Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) Program has been accepted for review by SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
If you’ve been looking for the CBSG® Program on the NREPP website, we are listed as “pending." A large number of organizations, including Rainbow Days, were required to resubmit their studies when the original National Registry of Effective Prevention Programs was terminated and replaced. Given the current backlog of programs awaiting review, it may be some time before more information is available. In the meantime, please let us know the evaluation information you are seeking by contacting our offices at 214-887-0726.
About NREPP:
The National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) is a searchable database of interventions for the prevention and treatment of mental and substance use disorders. The purpose of this registry is to assist the public in identifying approaches to preventing and treating mental and/or substance use disorders, which have been scientifically tested and can be readily disseminated to the field, i.e., have replication materials and training services already in place. NREPP is a service of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and is an expansion and enhancement of the original National Registry of Effective Prevention Programs developed by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), which was terminated in 2005, when the new an expanded registry was introduced. NREPP is voluntary, self-nominating system in which intervention developers elect to participate. Due to the large number of interventions already accepted for review, NREPP will not be accepting new submissions until October 1, 2009.
