Over 300 children and parents participated in this year’s carnival-like event which included face painting, a bounce house, lots of yummy treats, an easter egg hunt and a visit from the easter bunny. Make a Difference Today!

Volunteer Opportunities
Rainbow Days' programs are possible because of wonderful volunteers. A team of over 900 volunteers assist our organization annually and give more than 3,800 hours in service each year. Whether one day a week, a few hours a month or a few days a year, we are extremely grateful for our faithful volunteers. We really need your help to make our programs a success!

Below are our upcoming opportunities:

Support Group Co-Facilitator: Sign up for training so you can help co-facilitate a small group of 6-12 children using our life skills education curricula, which incorporates guided discussions, art, games and creative activities. An 8-hour training session is required prior to serving as a group co-facilitator. Groups meet weekly at a set time in approximately 2 hours shifts (including preparation time) in either day and/or evening commitments.

Office Projects: We need help around the office. Please schedule a time to come in with Lynette Smith and schedule your volunteer project any time Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.

For more information on volunteer opportunities, please contact Lynette Smith at lynettes@rdikids.org or at 214-217-3831

Parent Tip:
Use Teachable Moments
When is the right time to bring up the topic of drugs with my teenager?

Parenting expert Phillippe Cunningham, Ph.D., suggests that any moment can be a teachable moment. When you decide to use a moment to teach your teen something about drugs, it doesn’t have to be a long, serious talk — just a few words can do. And it’s not a talk you have to have only once. Have it regularly.

Some examples of teachable moments might be when you’re:

  • Having fun. One mother said, “I go for walks with my girls and everything just comes out right.”
  • Discussing books or movies with your kids.
  • Eating dinner together as a family.
  • Just hanging out … reading, cooking a meal, going fishing, listening to music, watching a ball game, singing together, playing chess or having a family picnic.

When your kids are in school, it’s a good time to start using teachable moments to warn them about inhalants. Some kids sniff gasoline, nail polish remover or the fumes from shaving cream cans to get high, and they can die any time they use them — the first or 50th time.
