Volunteer Opportunities

It is hard to believe that summer is right around the corner! Summer is a busy time for Rainbow Days as we provide three unique camps for homeless children in addition to our regular programs. We need your help to make our summer programs a success! Please check out the opportunities below and sign up today to volunteer and make a difference in the life of a child! Contact Lynette Smith, Volunteer Coordinator, at lynettes@rdikids.org or 214-217-3831 to sign up to volunteer.
Summer Camp Volunteers: We will have 3 week-long day camps, Kids' University, June 5-8, 2006, Camp El Har, July 3-9, 2006, and Camp Broadway, August 1-5, 2006, which will serve about 150 homeless children this summer. We need a number of volunteers to help make this week a success!
  • Lunch Volunteers/Donors - We need lunches! Sign up your coworkers or neighbors as a group to bring and serve lunch, drinks and dessert for about 100 children & volunteers on one or more days during Camp Broadway, August 1st - 5th.
  • Camp Helpers - We also need 6 individuals with a heart for children who could commit to helping us for the entire week of all 3 camps. Volunteer commitment would require a 2 hour orientation prior to the camp and commitment to be present for the whole day & week of camp, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm to help chaperone children through groups, classes and activities.

  • Prep Helpers - Join us in the office the week preceding Kids University or Camp Broadway (May 29th - June 2nd or July 24th - July 28th) to help gather and prepare materials for activities at camp.

Family Outing at the Zoo - Saturday, May, 27, 2006: We need 5 volunteers to help us take children and families from several local shelters to the Fort Worth Zoo for a Family Outing. These outings are a special time for children to bond with their families and experience something that a child with a home normally gets to experience. Time commitment would be from 10:00am - 3:00pm.

Back-to-School Celebration & Fall Harvest: Get ready to help a child succeed during the 2006-07 school year! Each summer, through the generosity of hundreds of individual and corporate donors, Rainbow Days distributes new backpacks filled with school supplies and new school outfits to over 350 homeless children. The cost of supplies for the backpacks is approximately $25 and the cost of a new school outfit ranges from $30 to $60. We would welcome your in-kind donation of school supplies or new clothing and/or your cash donation so that we can purchase the supplies for a child this fall.
