Rainbow Days’ is grateful for our team of over 400 volunteers who help us and give more than 3,800 hours in service each year.  Whether one day a week or a few hours a month, we are thankful for our faithful volunteers. We need your help to make our programs a success this fall!  For more information on VOLUNTEERING with Rainbow Days, please email or call 214-887-0726.

  • Summer Day Camps: It's summer and volunteers are needed to serve in a variety of roles for the summer camps we offer. Be a part of Kids' University, Camp Broadway, or the Outdoor Adventure Camp.

At Kids’ University the children enjoy an academic camp to promote literacy, higher education, develop social competency and build self-esteem.  Children have the opportunity to ‘take’ different courses throughout the week, including science, computers, juggling, painting, cooking, arts and crafts and others on a college campus.  The highlight of Kids’ University is the graduation ceremony at the end of the week where each child walks across the stage to receive their diploma donning a mortarboard! There are two weeks of Kids' University held at the University of Texas at Dallas, June 7-10, 2010 and June 21-24, 2010 from 10am to 3pm. Those wishing to volunteer must be available for the entire week of camp. Find out how you can join in the fun!

At Camp Broadway children enjoy a unique performing arts camp complete with an original final production and a performance in front of a live audience at the end of the week.  This camp provides each child with their chance to really ‘shine’ on stage as they build self-esteem, confidence and work with other children in teams. There are two weeks of Camp Broadway. July 13-17, 2010 from 10am to 3pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church and July 27-31, 2010 from 10am to 3pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm at Hillcrest Church. Those wishing to volunteer must be available for the entire week of camp. Find out how you can join in the fun!

Our final camp is a traditional outdoor camp including swimming, an alpine tower, zip line, climbing wall, challenge course, sports and hiking.  This camp requires a great deal of walking.  Transportation will be provided to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Encampment in Midlothian, Texas each day of camp. Those wishing to volunteer must be available for the entire week of camp, August 9-12, 2010 9:30am to 4pm.
*Note:  This is a faith based camp. Find out how you can join in the fun!

  • Back to School Celebration: Every August Rainbow Days hosts its Annual Back-to-School Celebration, a fun festivity to help Dallas-area children living in homeless, domestic violence and transitional shelters kick off the school year with new backpacks filled with necessary school supplies. • Family Outings: We provide special "excursions" from the homeless shelter for children and their parent(s), or guardian to strengthen these vulnerable families. Whether a trip to a museum, an amusement park, a restaurant or a baseball game, these outings are a special time for children to bond with their families and experience something that a child with a home normally gets to experience. Check back soon to see a list of upcoming Family Outings.

  • Group Helper Training : Help co-facilitate a small group of 6-12 children using our Curriculum-Based Support Group curricula, which incorporates guided discussions, art, games and creative activities.  Groups are held at one of 60 sites throughout the Dallas area at partnering shelters, recreation centers and schools at various times throughout the week. A 6-hour training session is required prior to serving as a group helper. Following the training, a 10 week commitment is required in order to be a group helper. Groups meet weekly at a set time in approximately 2 hours shifts (including preparation time) in either day and/or evening commitments. Call or email at 214-887-0726 for the next Training! Click here to see a schedule of upcoming trainings.

  • Art with a Heart : Serve as a mentor for the day!  Children are matched with a caring adult mentor for a day long “themed” arts retreat on a Saturday that incorporates a basic life skill.  As a mentor, you and the child will work together to create a visual art project and/or performing arts production that is presented to an audience at the end of the day. Check back soon to see upcoming Art with a Heart opprotunities.

  • Office Projects:   We need help preparing for all of these groups, camps and activities as well as preparing for our trainings and other office projects.  Please schedule a time to come in by emailing or at 214-887-0726 welcome any time Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
